Despite its name, the prison complex built there was never actually used for its intended purpose. The island is now a popular tourist destination, famous for its giant Aldabra tortoises and rich history.

You will typically spend 2–3 hours on the island.- Tortoise sanctuary: You'll spend time at the sanctuary for Aldabra giant tortoises, some of which are over 100 years old. You can feed them leaves, take photos, and learn about the conservation efforts protecting these endangered creatures
- Historical tour: Upon arrival, a guide will lead you to the remnants of the old prison and quarantine station. They will explain the island's complex history, including its use for isolating rebellious slaves and later, yellow fever patients.
- Leisure time: You have free time to relax on the white-sand beach, swim in the clear waters, or go snorkeling among the reefs just offshore.
